Rate classes explained

The short answer

Carriers sort applicants into classes like Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard. One class up can save 20 percent or more.

What decides your class

Build, blood pressure, cholesterol, family history, driving record, and tobacco use.

Why carriers differ

Each carrier has its own rules. Someone who is Standard at one carrier can be Preferred at another. That is why we shop several.
